IR Network Update
Kia ora IR Network members,
|
With many apologies for the delay in being in touch, I am emailing to follow up after the great network event that we had in Christchurch late last year, with a summary of our discussion relating to Network business.
|
We decided the following:
|
- We will have a team of co-coordinators: Matt Castle, Nick Smith, Di Jiang, Flynn Acworth, and Asha Thrishali.
- We are keen to have opportunities to showcase our work, especially for PhD students. So, we are looking into having a spot on the website to post working papers and publications.
- We are keen to coordinate with all PhDs across NZ and aim to get all IR PhDs in the network. The network seems a good opportunity to build support, get feedback on PhD work, encourage mentoring and co-authorship. So, a request to all colleagues to circulate an email to all IR PhDs in your programme, encouraging NZPSA membership (which is not expensive for students).
- We would like to have a regular mix of online and in-person events, to try and build momentum. At least one in-person event each year, so meeting up at the NZPSA annual conference, plus an in-person workshop in alternate years. Specific related suggestions, mostly relating to PhD activity:
- Reading group
- Podcast
- See if we can get some support to fly a PhD student to different university to give a talk in seminar series
- Network to sponsor/organise coherent panels at NZPSA conference.
- Organise events with specific theme.
- “work-in-progress” series with a written paper circulated ahead of time.
As an initial step, I would like to encourage members to consider attending the NZPSA, and would like to ask if anybody is keen to organise a panel, to consider circulating among the IR Network membership to look for opportunities. I am happy to forward such requests on to the Network.
